After my post about bus transport in Japan, many people have asked me ” Do Japanese people cut line/queue often during the long wait for something? “. The answer is NO. Even though how busy or rush they are going for work or somewhere to meet other person or buying limited stuff, They don’t simply cut other people’s line and wait patiently for their turns. When I first came here, I was kind surprise at how they queue up nicely on a straight line without hindrancing other people who walk pass by or the walking path around near it.
As you know that, Japanese people are quite aware of the public transportation schedule because 90-95% of the time schedule are mostly accurate and they arrived on time without any late except there is an accident occured. They usually take note of it for them to be there and take the public transportation on time. If they were happen to be late and had to queue up for a long wait, Cutting in people’s line is impossible to see them act this way. As you know that cutting in queue is rude thing to do and disrespect to people who lined up on the same line as they also do understand this quite well too.
I have been here for almost 5 months now and I never see any people here done such a disrespectful and rude ways of cutting lines during the wait for something. Japanese people really do respect others and they do really considerate for other people around them. Even in the public toilet, They do queue up when there is alot of people using it.
Other than lining up, They also give ways to the people who wants to get off the train by walking to the left and right side of the door and after all the people inside gets off completely, they will start to walking into in a straight line without pushing around to go in at first.
Back in my country, queue and line up is almost none existance and many people likes to cut other person line without thinking how long or tired it is to queue up for a long line. When I was still study in the west of my country, I saw the worst queue in my whole life and most people doesn’t have any consideration but to always cuts in line when they are rushing to go in first. Not to say when people are trying to get off the train or when the door opens up, folks that want to get off the train will have a hard time as the people from outside is standing at the middle of the door trying to rush in without letting others to get off the train and some might get pushed in again when there is alot of people. I always experience this kind of attitude back then. ^^;;
